Thank you for forwarding this mail to me. I can assure you that Mr. Paddy Max is a person of the highest ethic. That is why I trusted him to pass this cash to your alleged Mr. Peter Jones. It is noted that Mr. Jones claims to have done this and that. However, the photographs do not lie. If Mr. Jones is of such a great reputation and if that is indeed his real name, then please have him provide a copy of his passport scanned to me.

Does Mr. Jones think we believe his story about the bag. Why would he have that large of a bag just for a few sweets? He would have a small bag. Mr. Jones also states he has spoken with the police, but does not mention the name of the officer who he spoke with. This is very suspicious.

Where do we stand now, Martin. Your friend has cost us all a great deal of money.

I tried to think of more ways to try to convince Davis that Peter really had lied to him. I hit upon the idea of sampling various pieces from Peter Jones's telephone calls to me and then editing them together to make a brand new fake telephone call!

It was pretty hard work, and the audio is a bit suspicious in parts but I thought it would be good enough to fool Davis. As I am not speaking to Davis at the moment, I handed the fake conversation between Max N. Paddy and Peter Jones to Ed Shanks to send to Davis:

I hope this mail finds you in better condition than myself. My days have been ruined by the fact that Peter Jones robbed us. Mr. Paddy Max has been able to obtain the audio recording of conversations between himself and Peter Jones. He got this from the telephone cellular company who keeps them for a short while for security reasons. He sent the audio file to me.

I am attaching the actual voice conversation between Paddy Max and Peter Jones to this email so you can hear for yourself what a crook and liar Peter Jones is. It is the conversation that took place on the exact moment that Paddy Max handed over the cash to Peter Jones. It can be clearly understood while listening that Peter received the money.

Let me advise you of another development. I am completely broke. I spoke with your friend Bernel here in the USA yesterday regarding sending you $2,700 USD for the investigation. She said that she could handle the transfer. However, I would need to borrow the money from Mr. Paddy Max. He refuses to loan me the cash unless you admit to him that Peter is a thief, and send him a copy of Peter’s passport. Can you do this so we move forward ASAP.

Well finally you have come to see that what I have been telling you all this time is true. Thank you for being intelligent enough to see through this man's lies.

Well, Mr. Jones knows my address and also my business address, so if he really means to try to clear his name then he is being very slow about it because I have heard nothing from him. He is most welcome to come to my offices, however he will be in danger of immediate arrest is he sets foot in Paisley again. But enough of that buffoon, let us get back to business.

My friend Ed Shanks telephoned me a short while ago, and he sounded to me very frustrated and upset. It appears that you require more money from him but he no longer has anything to give. He has begged for my help, but I have to be honest with you and tell you that my help will be hard to give because my trust has dealt a severe blow because of the actions of Mr. Jones. As it stands at the moment, I have lost $18,000 and I do not know if I will ever see it again.

My friend Ed Shanks has promised me that if I help him out once more, you will both pay me back my $18,000 once the deal you have with Mr. Shanks has been finalised. If this is indeed the case then perhaps I ay be willing to help. Please understand that I am only doing this to help out my very dear friend. Now Mr. Davis, I need some very honest and accurate information from you before I am prepared to help you with yet more money. I need you to answer the following questions as accurately as you can, and also I have some terms you must agree to. If you can answer the questions and agree to my terms THEN and only then will I be willing to help my friend Mr. Shanks by sending you the money by whatever means best suits you.

1. I do not know what your deal is with Mr. Shanks, but can you please tell me once I pay you the money, how long will it take to complete?

2. Once you and Mr. Shanks have the full deal completed, will you agree to pay half of my $18,000 back to me?

3. Please tell me of the TOTAL AMOUNT required to finally finish this deal. I need to know the complete amount so that once Mr. Shanks pays you there will be no further charges. I have told Mr. Shanks that I am willing to help him up to the amount of US $50,000 but no more than this. So please let me know the exact and FINAL amount that is required to finalise this deal.

Now to my terms:

As a result of the robbery which took place against me, I have lost a lot of trust in this deal, and I need to be 100% sure of the identity of the person I am giving this money to. I will need you to show some proof of identity to me in the following manner;

1. I will need a good quality scan of your passport or other identification card that includes your photograph.

2. To prove that the person in the passport or ID is you I will also need you to take a new *high quality* photograph of yourself holding a sign with the following message written on it: PETER JONES IS A THIEF

You will need to have a photograph taken of yourself holding this CLEAR sign. Scan the photograph and then send it to me, along with your passport, by email attachment. It is VERY IMPORTANT that the passport/ID and your photograph scan are HIGH QUALITY and LARGE & CLEAR. I will reject any small or unclear images.

The reason I need you to take a new photograph of yourself holding the sign is that I can then compare it to your passport/ID photo and then be sure of course that you are one and the same person.

Now Mr. Davis, so long as you are prepared to accept my terms above ad answer the questions, I WILL send you the payment you require, up to the total amount of US $50,000.

As soon as the scans of your identification and your ID/passport are received (and are of sufficient quality) then I will advise my secretary Mr. John Kimble to make the payment to you immediately in whatever manner suits you.

[Some readers eyebrows will have raised when the name John Kimble came up. I'm sure some of you know what is coming soon!]

Please note that the above terms are non negotiable. If you do not agree to my request then I am sorry but I will have to tell my friend that I am unwilling to help him.

Davis actually sent the scan and passport image a day early. Unfortunately the quality was crap, so he was ordered to re-scan everything and send it again. I won't bore you al with the several emails backwards and forwards complaining about image quality.
